A Music Information Retrieval Approach Based on Power Laws

Experiment Corpus

This page contains music (MIDI) used in the classification experiment based on aesthetic preferences of human listeners. This experiment is described in:

The corpus for this experiment comes from the Classical Music Archives. It consists of 14,695 classical MIDI encoded pieces, and the download log (1,034,355 downloads) for November 2003.

This corpus is divided into two classes, Most Preferred and Least Preferred, each containing 1,000 pieces. The two classes are separated by more than 12,000 pieces. This was done to strengthen the relationship between number of downloads and aesthetic preference.
