Explore innovative user interfaces in a particular context.
This is an individual assignment. You must work on your own (but you may talk to the instructor and/or a librarian).
Find one conference or journal article related to user interface design and human-computer interaction (HCI). Select this paper from one of the following:
You may also find papers in the ACM Digital Library or the IEEE CS Digital Library.
The article should explore the development of a particular user interface, or some interesting research (or application) area of HCI. The article should have a reference/bibliography section at the end.
No Wikipedia articles, or other Internet-only / magazine articles, blogs, etc. will be accepted.
- Print the original article, and highlight interesting passages.
- Write comments and questions on the margins.
- Look at the references at the end the article, and highlight two references that you think would help you learn more on this topic.
- Write a summary of why you thought this article was interesting/important, and what have you learned from reading it (one-two pages, normal font).
- Create a bibliography with six items.
- The first item should be the original article.
- The next two references should be the ones you highlighted at the end of the original article.
- Add three more references related to this topic, which you think may help you learn more about this topic. Those articles should not be listed in the references of the original article.

- Submit a printout of your document at the beginning of class on the due date. Your document should be typed and formatted appropriately.
- Attach a printout of the original article (annotated with highlights and comments on the margins, as described above).
- Be prepared to present what you learned from your article to the class. Your goal is to introduce this state-of-the-art HCI topic to your classmates.
Your grade will be based on the depth/quality of your work (e.g., explanation, questions, etc.), and your class presentation (e.g., 80% of grade).
You may also be asked to evaluate the presentations of your classmates (e.g., 20% of grade).
