The CofC ACM isn't just another computer club. It's a student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, the largest and most influential technology group in the world. The ACM helps fund and advance research in many areas of technology, including the development of research skills in undergraduate colleges and universities around the world.
Return to Top...Unlike many other academic groups on campus, this is not limited to one major. We have many members from the Computer Science department, as expected. We also have members from Physics, Engineering and Mathematics, but we do not restrict membership to scientific fields. We gladly welcome those from Education because we discuss the applications of technology in the classroom. We would like to have students from the Arts because we enjoy discussions about the use of computers in both physical and virtual artwork. In fact, the only restriction for membership is that you must be a student at the College of Charleston with an interest in technology.
Return to Top...Meetings are held every Tuesday in the JCLong Building (on the corner of Liberty and St. Phillip) in room 220 (from the elevators, go left; room 220 is the last room on the right).
Return to Top...The most common element each meeting shares is free food and open discussion. Meetings typically open with a brief message from the chapter president who then introduces a guest speaker.
For an idea of speakers, discussed topics, and activities, take a look at our meeting archives.
