Dr. Jim Bowring is a visiting professor here at College of Charleston and has a Ph. D in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology. He currently leads the College of Charleston CIRDLES LAB.

This upcoming tuesday, Professor Tony LeClerc from the College of Charleston Computer Science department. He graduated from Ohio State University and is now an associate professor. He will giving a talk on how to build a low-cost, low-power home theatre PC. CL for Java

Our guest this week is Professor Jerry Boetje, who will do a presentation on the CLforJava project. This project has been worked on by over 160 College of Charleston Computer Science students since 2003, with Professor Boetje acting as the project lead. CLforJava incorporates a number of techniques and patterns to allow for seamless access between the Java and Common Lisp languages. These patterns range from meshing type systems to creating defstruct architectures to a new view of pathnames.

High School Instruction

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss a project that is focused on instructing high school students about linux, python programming, game programming, and all sorts of open source tools. Specifically, the project focuses on programming in python on olpc XO laptops, and the meeting is to discuss the details of the project, how students can get involved, and what other projects students and the LUG are working on.

Computer Science students Rees Byars and Michael Miller will be presenting about their current internships at ICF and i-Sys. Rees will talk about what it is like to be an intern at ICF, the products ICF creates, the company culture, and employee development. Michael Miller will present on his experience with i-Sys, including what i-Sys does, what he does, and employment opportunities. Bring your curiosity and questions and enjoy the free pizza!

LAN Party, Officer Nominations, and Complexity
This week we will discuss the LAN Party scheduled for April 3rd on in areas such as tournaments, other games to play besides the ones in tournaments, and who can bring what to help make the event happen.
The officer nomination portion of the meeting consists of the current officers speaking on what their jobs are followed by nominations of members (by others or themselves) for the officer positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Webmaster, and Public Relations. If there are sufficient nominations by the following meeting to fill all positions, we will hold a vote.
The last item on the agenda is our very own vice president speaking on complexity. As usual we will be providing food free of charge for attending members.

The ACM is excited to have Dr. Garrett Mitchener speak with us. At Princeton University, Dr. Mitchener earned a PhD in Applied and Computational Mathematics. Following mathematical post-doc work at Duke, he came to the College of Charleston as an assistant professor. Dr. Mitchener will be discussing how to use formal logic to understand what authentication protocols guarantee and discover any flaws in them.
