CS Department Scholarhips and Endowments

COMPUTER SCIENCE ACM
This is the general operating fund used for the ACM student group. Industries who support computer science education fund this account on behalf of the computer science programs.

Crosby Computer Science Endowment
Named in honor of C. Richard (Dick) Crosby who started the Computer Science department in 1980, this fund supports student research projects and student travel to present research. The endowment also awards $200 to the most promising computer science student who has completed the first programming course in the major. The bulk of the endowment came from CS alumni.

The Thomas W. Carroll Memorial Scholarship in Computer Science - Application
Thomas W. Carroll was a computer science major later in life. He saw how difficult it was for students to work and major in computer science. He donated $250,000 to endow a gift to support junior computer science majors with a B average and who could potentially do better academically if they could reduce their work hours during the academic semesters of their senior year.

Past recipients include Alex Summer (2008) and Hector Mojica (2009).

Bibliolife Computer Science Scholarship “BiblioLife Scholarship” - Application
BiblioLabs, LLC recognizes the value of supporting a strong Computer Science Program within the liberal arts curriculum of the College of Charleston, and a need to attract to the College of Charleston outstanding high school graduates, who demonstrate independent, creative and clever thinking, and who seek a major in Computer Science. BiblioLabs further recognizes the need to retain students in the field of Computer Science at the College of Charleston, and to prepare graduates with Computer Science majors for the Charleston area work force. Thus Bob Holt donated four, full-tuition undergraduate scholarships.

Past recipients include John Youngblood (2009), David Bruneau (2010) and Glenn Nelson (2011).

Santee Cooper Scholarship
Santee Cooper supports computer science to help effect the mission of Santee Cooper to be the state's leading resource for improving the quality of life for the people of South Carolina. Technology is essential to power generation, power distribution, power monitoring and customer support. Santee Cooper provides $5,000 scholarships to majors in the computer science department. Funds are provided for recruitment of new freshmen and to juniors and seniors who have earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher. All Santee Cooper scholarships are awarded to students who are South Carolina residents. Students are selected by the department based on academic merit, not financial need. There is no application form.
